Lately I have been...
... taking road trips.
... going to the beach.
... not cooking hot meals.
... listening to a little boy NOT sleep when he's supposed to.
... having fun planning and preparing for Levi's The Very Hungry Caterpillar themed birthday party.
... showering at night.
...listening to Asher talk back to the TV when he watches Dora.
... reading.
... staying up too late.
... trying to make an important decision about Asher's preschool in the fall.
... driving Greg to and from work.
... going to the library with the boys.
... hopeful about our church finding a new pastor, maybe, finally.
... looking forward to travelling 6.5 hours alone to a cousins wedding.
... celebrating.
... wondering what to do with my hair.
... watching Asher play soccer.
... holding Levi off the field so he doesn't play soccer.
... spending a lot of time with my iPhone.
... doing laundry.
What about you?

Lately I have been...
... encouraging a little boy to walk, and feeling encouraged by all his new moves and how close he is.
... putting the boys to bed a bit earlier in the evening. Asher's been really tired and cranky in the evenings since he no longer naps, and the earlier bedtime has been working fabulously (thanks for the idea, Jenn!)
... creating.
... trying some new pinterest ideas for Christmas.
... feeling excited for a friend who is coming to visit for the holidays.
... planning yummy food for the holidays.
... needing to get groceries.
... cleaning. Always cleaning up after these boys.
... bringing my magic bag to bed with me and having warm toes as I fall asleep.
... receiving a lot of Christmas cards, and trying to find creative ways to display said Christmas cards.
... sad about my neighbor passing away.
... thankful for my mom, who took the boys for a sleepover last weekend.
... having mixed feelings about having just weened Levi. I'm thankful that he weened himself and it wasn't a struggle, but sad that this phase is over.
... having mixed feelings about how much Levi loves my step-father. He has been choosing him over me repeatedly (reaches out for him as soon as he sees him and won't come back in my arms). I'm happy he loves him and has a good grandpa, but don't like being second, especially when he was such a Mama's boy.
... seeing my chiropractor.
... having a glass of wine in the evenings.
... enjoying my Christmas tree.
How have you been?

Yesterday...
... I was woken up at 6:15 by my crying 15-month old.
... Levi only napped for a little over an hour for the whole day.
... I had a cranky baby on my hands most of the day.
... I went to Costco and spent over $100.
... Levi ate $7 worth of blueberries (he kept signing for more and then smiling so big when I would give him some, how could I refuse?)
... Asher had a poop accident at preschool.
... Asher had a pee accident while in his car seat, and his pee soaked the upholstery in my backseat.
... I learned how to fully disassemble all the parts of Asher's car seat, and put it back together again.
... my dear friend helped me a lot with said car seat, and with cleaning up aforementioned pee-soaked upholstery.
... Asher played really well with his friend during their play date.
... Asher had more time-out's than he has ever had in one day for not listening, yelling, and hurting his brother (repeatedly).
... Asher was sent to his room for the night after supper for the first time.
... our car wouldn't start in the afternoon and had to get towed to the garage.
... I missed a doctor's appointment as a result of the car troubles.
... my anticipated "night out" to do some shopping and errands I needed to do was not able to happen because of said car troubles.
... I stayed home, had a drink, and worked on our family's advent calendar instead.
... a lovely friend with a listening ear visited and let me vent away.
... I was not the mother I want to be, and I apologized to Asher for yelling and being so frustrated.
... we had bagel BLT's for supper (vegetarian bacon, of course) and they were good.
... was a bad day, but it's ok, and I'm ok.
... is over!

Lately I have been...
... dealing with a sick toddler/preschooler and a teething baby.
... picking up a very happy, and well-behaved, boy from Roxy's school.
... NOT cleaning up pee accidents. I think we almost got this (knock on wood)!
... buying poop prizes - that one's still a work in progress :(
... hearing Levi say ball, all done, and Mama.
... sorting kid clothes.
... reading Sarah's Key (just finished it the other day... whoa, difficult, but amazing, book)
... remembering.
... planning.
... visiting.
... emailing.
... eating.
... budgeting.
... preparing Sunday School type lesson plans for church.
... watching my husband drain our little pool.
... getting the last of the zucchini, squash, and cucumbers from our garden - the ones the cucumber bugs didn't destroy :(
... hoping our tomatoes and ground cherries mature and ripen before the frost hits.
... trying out a Zumba class, and liking it.
... realizing at aforementioned Zumba class that I have some bladder control issues after birthing 2 babies. This is not good.
... reminding myself to do kegels. (Mandi - do your kegels!!)
... wearing flip flops for as long as I can.

Lately I have been...
... enjoying watching Levi as he tastes new things. So far I'd say peas are one of his favorites; beef on the other hand (which I did not make, for the record) did not go over so well. I'm secretly happy about this one.
... dealing with a fussy baby who has just not quite been himself. I blame teething.
... only getting up once a night, somewhere between 3 and 4 AM, with the Levster. This is good.
... reading Asher's new Tonka phonics books over and over and over and over again.
... sad to leave my boy at preschool because for some reason he has started being sad when I leave! He did great for the first month, and now, out of the blue, he's been crying. It's so hard to leave like this, even though I know I need to.
... continuing on with the potty training journey. Asher has great days, and then days with many accidents. Two steps forward, one step back is how we roll I guess. As I think about this, I realize that this whole process has been so Asher. New things are always hard for him.
... so grateful for my mom. She has been coming over every second Wednesday to give the boys supper and put them to bed while Greg and I go out. It's a sweet deal all around. Asher asks for her to come back the next morning.
... feeling like something is so "right" about this journey my church is on now that our current pastor has resigned. We are growing in good ways, but will miss my pastoral family dearly.
... thinking a lot about children and church; how do we welcome them? Read some thought-provoking articles in Faith Today on this.
... lighting a candle every day when I'm praying for some big things. It's helped me to focus, tune in, and listen to my heart, and has been a good tool for me to use.
... feeling anxiety about my upcoming journey with taking care of 2 other children, 2 days a week. I've done this before, and I know the first few weeks will be tough, but I'm confident that I'll figure it out. Until I start, the anxiety is there though.
... looking forward to U2 this summer!!!
... tired.
... running a few times a week.
... enjoying Steven Tyler on American Idol.

Lately I have been...
... not doing much of the things I "should" be doing
... wrapping Christmas presents
... having the occasional evening glass of red wine
... worrying about how I will manage when Greg goes back to work in a couple of weeks
... but also looking forward to Greg going back to work so I can have my space again
... potty training the toddler, with some success and some accidents
... eating too many cookies, and too much cheese (although not at the same time)
... considering registering Levi for swimming lessons in the new year (I started with Asher when he was 3 and a half months old!)
... anticipating with both sadness and excitement the day when Asher will start preschool in January (it's just one morning a week, but that's a big step)
... looking forward to seeing my dear friend Erin soon
... experiencing blocked milk ducts on and off
... receiving physiotherapy treatment for said blocked milk duct, which seemed to have some positive results, but didn't fully resolve the problem
... wondering if I should hold onto my baby stuff as Levi grows out of it or find a place to store it
... sleeping more at night as Levi is consistently sleeping through until about 5 AM
... reading too many books at once
... wishing my hair would just hurry up and grow a little bit more
... looking forward to Christmas morning
Monday, September 27, 2010
Lately I have been...
... exhausted because that the one waking is for over an hour
... frustrated with Levi's nursing issues
... anticipating an upcoming consultation with a Speech Language Pathologist at the Breastfeeding Clinic in regards to said nursing issue
... hoping the Zantac was the miracle cure, but it is not
... inspecting the color of the aforementioned newborns poo
... struggling to find time to shower, and brush my teeth
... needing my morning coffee
... not eating breakfast until almost lunch time
... doing so much laundry (it's really quite something)
... hearing a lot of tantrums from boy wonder #1
... saying a lot of "Be gentle with Levi, that was not gentle, Asher. You need to say sorry"
... missing my one-on-one time with Asher
... astonished by how big Asher seems
... working on potty training with Asher
... getting out a bit (thank you to my mom who cared for both of my boys for Greg and I to have supper out - dream!)
... reminded that I actually like spending time with my husband
... looking forward to my favorite Indian restaurant this week
... celebrating a lot of birthdays! (Happy Birthday Brooke, MB, Josiah, Diana, and my dad!)
... celebrating the one-month birthday of Levi
... super sad about saying good-bye to a friend and her family who are moving to Montreal (we will miss you guys SOOO much!)
... entertaining more than usual at my house
... skipping out on church because of Levi's nursing issues (a screaming newborn in the middle of a sermon is not a fun time)
... trying to stay connected to The Big Guy through music
... missing Big Brother but loving that Oprah and House have restarted
... into reading "The Help" - awesome book so far
... struggling to find the time to blog and to manage to get all the words and thoughts floating around in my head out somehow (have grace, dear readers, plenty of grace...)

2 weeks
... given birth, and made more strange noises than I ever thought humanly possible doing so
... had 2 "most embarrassing" moments, one involving 2 nurses and a flash light in search of my urethra, and another involving an overly active reaction to some stool softeners
... cried myself sick with worry over Levi's low blood sugar and stay in the NICU
... lost 20 pounds
... produced a lot of breast milk, and worn many an ounce of it
... lost too many hours of sleep to count
... fought with my husband more than I would have liked to over things that don't really matter
... been frustrated with our breastfeeding issues involving a screaming, crying infant for reasons yet unknown (possible causes on the table: thrush, over active let down reflex, gas, acid reflux)
... been lonely and teary and hurting for various reasons
... wiped my 2-year olds nose a million times
... watched said sick 2-year old with equal parts caution and joy begin to want to love and cuddle his new brother
... hobbled around due to back pain and had my first chiropractor's appointment
... fallen more and more in love with the 2 little boys that reside in my house
... started to define a new normal that still seems really scary and unknown to me
Welcome to our world Levi - I can't believe it's already been 2 weeks since you arrived. My world has changed so much in that short time, and you have been worth every last second of it!
Monday, August 23, 2010
This weekend I...
... had 2 girls nights
... ate Cold Stone Creamery ice cream
... paid $9 to get into a local kids attraction that Asher cried through the whole time
... celebrated a friends 40th birthday

... slept in 2 mornings in a row thanks to my wonderful husband!
... woke up to my guys playing with an elaborate train set-up and making lots of tractor drawings
Sunday, August 1, 2010
Lately I have been...
... washing and folding teeny tiny clothes
... cleaning, sorting, and organizing to get someone's room ready for his arrival
... feeling huge and uncomfortable and seriously lacking energy
... sure that this baby is no longer head down (I really hope I'm wrong)
... having difficulty getting up and down and sitting in various positions
... dreaming that this baby comes early
... eating more ice cream at home
... cooking simple meals
... buying local food
... picking and eating fresh raspberries
... using my Epicure spices more
... dealing with a teething toddler (wow, that's NOT a pretty combination)
... putting someone back in his bed 20 million times (I knew this would happen eventually)
... woken up at 5:45 AM numerous mornings in a row by aforementioned someone getting out of his bed
... convinced that Asher cannot miss his nap, no matter how much fun we're having (trying to carry a days worth of supplies, and a screaming toddler out of a water park while you're 8 months pregnant is also NOT a pretty combination)
... visiting the zoo, the beach, friend's cottages, water parks, play parks, splash parks, bus outings, and many other day trips in order to really enjoy these last few weeks with just Asher. It's starting to take it's toll on this pregnant lady, though.
... having a few too many freak outs that I am going to be a mother of 2 very, very soon. OMG. I'm sure I will survive, but I'm a bit scared if I'm being honest.
... sure that Asher is actually ready to be potty-trained, but I just don't have it in me to clean up a million accidents a day right now, especially since getting up and down to the floor is a 20-minute process. This will have to wait until Greg is off on his paternity leave.
... so thankful that Greg is able to take 4-months of paternity leave starting in September. Benefit # 400 to being a stay-at-home-mom - the husband can take advantage of the parental leave benefits! (And also thankful that his employer tops up his income to 93%!)
... enjoying the company of some friends and missing the company of some others
... anticipating our week long cottage vacation that is THIS WEEK!
... packing and planning for aforementioned vacation (there sure is a lot of stuff to bring!)
... loving the fact that we get this week to just be together as a family of 3 and have fun!
We will be Internet free for our vacation time, so this blog will be a quiet spot. Expect lots of updates and photos when we return!
