Prenatal visit #11

Date: August 24, 2010 = 38.5 weeks pregnant (I will be 39 weeks on Thursday)

baby boo's heart rate = 138 bpm

weight = 180.4 lbs (I didn't even gain 1 ounce this week - sweet!)

blood pressure = normal

urine = no issues

belly measurements = on target

- My doctor did an internal exam - my first one - and discovered that I am 2.5 cm dilated. I was so excited to hear this news! It doesn't necessarily mean the baby is coming any sooner, but atleast I'm part of the way there. Awesome.

- She also "stripped my membranes" which just means that she ran her finger around the inside of my cervix to loosen the bag of waters and hopefully stimulate labour. If this is going to get labour moving, it will happen within 24-48 hours. No guarantees though.

- I have been feeling pressure and cramping on and off all day, so I'm hoping this is a good sign!

- The baby's head is still quite low and he is in position to come out.

- It's a full moon TODAY - this can only work in my favor!

- My doctor is on call tonight so I really want this to happen now!

- All I want to do is cuddle Asher and cherish this time with just him. I know he will always be my baby, but it's so weird to think that I will have another. I don't know how I could possibly contain enough love in my heart for 2 children because I think I'm already full with love for Asher!

- I hope the next time I post it's with more exciting news! Stay tuned...

Prenatal Visit #10

[Sorry folks, no picture this time!]

Date: August 19, 2010 = 38 weeks pregnant

baby boo's heart rate = 147 bpm

weight = 180.4 lbs (that's a total of 44 lbs gained so far - unbelievable. My bet is that 10 lbs of it is water retention located solely in my feet and ankles!)

blood pressure = She didn't tell me the number, but said it was normal

urine = no issues

belly measurements = again, I don't know the number, but it's on target

- My doctor confirmed again the Strep B diagnosis, which means I do need the antibiotics during labour. It would be ideal if I had one full dose, which takes 4 hours, before baby boo is born. I'm hoping my labour isn't much longer than that! The reason I need the antibiotics is because the baby could get meningitis and some other complications if he gets the Strep B. This would be very rare, but they give the antibiotics as a precaution.

- The doctor said the baby is very low in my pelvis (read: locked, loaded and ready to go). This could mean that I'm getting closer to that magical delivery date.

- This information of the baby being very low in my pelvis explains the constant pressure I've been feeling and my lack of bladder control. The guy literally is sitting on and squishing my bladder. Awesome.

- The swelling in my feet and ankles has reached new proportions. It's unbelievable and very uncomfortable. I look, and feel like, I have hobbit feet. The bad news is the swelling no longer goes down at night and my feet are still slightly swollen when I wake up in the morning.

- I have had tremendous support this week from family and friends. I have been so tired and low energy and unable to move that just getting through the day is a challenge. Many people have volunteered to care for Asher, push the stroller for me, have us over for supper, provide meals, and do other small tasks. It's been amazing and I feel very blessed!

- I am now at the point that every phone call I make to my husband during the day has to start with "I'm not in labour". This is constantly in the back of his mind. I can't wait until I can call him to say "It's time!"

- Greg has refreshed his memory on his massage techniques in preparation for the big day.

- The next full moon is August 24 - my money is on that for delivery day!

- I'd love to know your guesses for baby's weight, length, and birth date - got any?

Prenatal visit #9

Date: August 13, 2010 = 37 weeks pregnant

baby boo's heart rate = 150 bpm

weight = 177 lbs (that's a total of 41 lbs gained this pregnancy. Wowzers!)

blood pressure = 116/72

urine = no issues

belly measurements = 35 cm (on target)

- I saw a different doctor today since my OB/GYN is on vacation. It was an interesting experience with someone different, but I much prefer my doctor.

- I received some really good news; the baby is DEFINITELY head down. Sweet! The doctor was even able to help me feel this for myself, and boy do you have to press hard on my stomach to feel that head in there.

- Although baby boo is head down, his head is not yet engaged in my pelvis. Boo!

- Bad news; my Strep B test came back and I tested positive. Basically Strep B is a bacteria that many people have, and sometimes it's active and sometimes it's dormant. It's not related to hygiene or sexual activity, it's just something that's present or not. I did not have this for Asher, or it wasn't high enough levels to matter. This time, however, since I do have it, I have to take antibiotics during my labor and delivery to ensure the baby doesn't get it. Another boo!

- I'm still experiencing swelling, back pain, heart burn, trouble sleeping, a couple of bouts of mild cramping, low energy levels, and lots of discharge (sorry if that's TMI) and all of this is par for the course. My cranky attitude, whining, and complaining are just my own doing. Sorry if you've fallen victim to this :)

- The baby's room is officially ready and open for business. All the clothes are washed, sorted, folded, and stored where they need to go. Diapers and other essentials are bought and put away. Crib has clean sheets and everything has been wiped down and washed. My hospital bag is about 90% ready to go. The bassinet, car seat, swing, and bouncy chair are out of storage and have been cleaned. My nursing "stuff" has all been found and washed. We still have a few small things left to do (install car seat, finish packing diaper bag, etc.) but really the only thing we're missing is 1 baby boy, and I'm hoping that he comes ANY DAY now!

Lately I have been...

... showered with baby gifts

... washing and folding teeny tiny clothes

... cleaning, sorting, and organizing to get someone's room ready for his arrival

... feeling huge and uncomfortable and seriously lacking energy

... sure that this baby is no longer head down (I really hope I'm wrong)

... having difficulty getting up and down and sitting in various positions

... dreaming that this baby comes early

... eating more ice cream at home

... cooking simple meals

... buying local food

... picking and eating fresh raspberries

... using my Epicure spices more

... dealing with a teething toddler (wow, that's NOT a pretty combination)

... putting someone back in his bed 20 million times (I knew this would happen eventually)

... woken up at 5:45 AM numerous mornings in a row by aforementioned someone getting out of his bed

... convinced that Asher cannot miss his nap, no matter how much fun we're having (trying to carry a days worth of supplies, and a screaming toddler out of a water park while you're 8 months pregnant is also NOT a pretty combination)

... visiting the zoo, the beach, friend's cottages, water parks, play parks, splash parks, bus outings, and many other day trips in order to really enjoy these last few weeks with just Asher. It's starting to take it's toll on this pregnant lady, though.

... having a few too many freak outs that I am going to be a mother of 2 very, very soon. OMG. I'm sure I will survive, but I'm a bit scared if I'm being honest.

... sure that Asher is actually ready to be potty-trained, but I just don't have it in me to clean up a million accidents a day right now, especially since getting up and down to the floor is a 20-minute process. This will have to wait until Greg is off on his paternity leave.

... so thankful that Greg is able to take 4-months of paternity leave starting in September. Benefit # 400 to being a stay-at-home-mom - the husband can take advantage of the parental leave benefits! (And also thankful that his employer tops up his income to 93%!)

... enjoying the company of some friends and missing the company of some others

... anticipating our week long cottage vacation that is THIS WEEK!

... packing and planning for aforementioned vacation (there sure is a lot of stuff to bring!)

... loving the fact that we get this week to just be together as a family of 3 and have fun!

We will be Internet free for our vacation time, so this blog will be a quiet spot. Expect lots of updates and photos when we return!
