Levi update

There is so much news about Levi that I've missed posting since my little blog hiatus.  Here are the updates:

- at 18 months old Levi weighed 28 lbs (75 percentile), was 34 inches long (95 percentile), and his head circumference was 51 cm (110 percentile).   Blond hair, blue eyes, big head - he's Greg's son!

- Levi went through about 6 rounds of antibiotics over a 2 month period to try to clear up a double ear infection that wouldn't go away.  He had had runny nose, after runny nose, and when the nose cleared up, so did the ears.  Not after a referral to an ENT for possible tubes, however.  That appointment is in August.

- I had Levi's speech screened because I noticed that his speech was not clear and he didn't seem to have as many as words as other children his age (nor as many as Asher did around this age).  The Speech Pathologist would like to start him with 3 months of speech therapy.  Although he passed his hearing test with flying colors (this when the infection finally cleared), his repeated ear infections combined with his low muscle tone could be to blame for his delay.  I have observed that since Levi's ear infections have cleared up, he has come up with several new words, which is encouraging.

- Here is a list of Levi's words to date (at 20-months of age)

"Mama" = Mama
"Papa" = Papa
"Ah" = Asher
"ba" = ball
"bo" = book
"tet-h" = teeth
"shis" = shoes
"chis" = cheese
"ah-pe" = open
"ah dah" = all done/all gone
"dah" = dog
"tuc" = truck
"choo choo" = train
"dow" = down
"uh" = up
"juis" = juice
"nah" = snack
"hiee" = hi
"haa" = hat
"buh" = button (belly button)
"booh" = peek-a-boo
"bebe" = baby
"soc ohn" = sock on (when getting dressed)
"bih" = bird (new in the last week)
"crack" = cracker/cookie (new in the last week)

- Although he doesn't say much, he is very good at communicating what he wants.  He will point, gesture, scream, pull your hand, etc.  He also understands a great deal, and will follow simple commands, i.e. "go put this in the garbage Levi", "go get your shoes on", or "can I have a kiss?" to name a few.  He can point to many body parts that I name (belly, ears, eyes, hair, nose, mouth, bum) and he has several signs that he will use (more, all gone, and sorry being the most common).

- Levi is no longer being closely followed by the Pediatric Physiotherapist we were seeing.  Now that he has mastered walking, she expects the rest of the developmental milestones to follow suit.  We will do a follow-up with her in the early summer.  Most recently Levi has started walking down the stairs holding onto my hand.

- Levi has 12 teeth.  His 4 molars just recently came in around 18 months of age.  We are still waiting for those canines to make an appearance.  Levi has been a late teether all along, so I'm not surprised that this process is still going on for us.

- Levi participates well in a Kindermusik class and in a swimming lesson.

- Levi is a very happy boy, and a very busy boy.  He is into everything and many times I have found him emptying drawers, throwing stuff in the toilet, or playing in the garbage.  He is a risk taker and doesn't really seem to be afraid of new experiences.

- Levi is a Mama's boy though, and is currently going through a bout of separation anxiety that peaked when I returned from Calgary.

- Levi goes to sleep shortly after 7PM each night and is awake at 6AM each morning.  He often wakes up around 10PM for a drink of water.  He has one nap a day, from about 1-3PM.

- Levi is in size 4 diapers, in between size 18-24 month/2 clothes, and size 6 shoes.

- Levi loves his brother, trucks, washing his hands, brushing his teeth, exploring anything and everything, chasing, slides, and his Mama.

- Levi is a great eater, but is starting to get a bit picky.  He will never turn away yogurt, cheese, crackers/bread, grapes, beans, scrambled eggs, veggie dogs, or pizza.
