I believe this to be true...

"Suffering exists not for the purpose of hurting us, but to teach us where genuine good is to be found, and thus to make us stronger, more intelligent and more vibrant"

This is familiar... is it from one of the gratefulness emails this week? I especially appreciate the idea that suffering creates a contrast that helps us appreciate genuine good.

Hey Mel, it is the from the gratefulness emails this week. I feel like in my life, especially over the past 2 years, I have become increasingly aware of the purpose of suffering... and I think a lot of it has to do with teaching us to appreaciate and experience the full richness of the good that we are blessed with. Thanks for your comment!

so so true! I'm finally at a place where I'm getting this. I think the key though for me is to remember it when in the midst of the suffering (not sure how good I'll be at this). There have definitely been yucky times in my life that I would do all over again, not because they were pleasant, but because I see Him in a whole new way. I also always enjoy the moments that I'm able to use my suffering to encourage someone else. Thanks for sharing!

Erin, I think remembering that hope exists in the midst of pain is always part of the challenge. Thanks for sharing your perspective!
